COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ashley Bowyer, a midfielder for the Ohio State women's soccer team, traveled with the U.S. National Under-20 Team for a three-match stint March 23-28 in College Station, Texas.
"Ashley has worked extremely hard since coming to Ohio State," Lori Walker, OSU head coach, said. "She had a very good freshman season and over the winter and early spring she has really improved and we feel she is deserving of this opportunity. We are extremely excited for her."
Bowyer (Aliso Viejo, Calif/Slammers), who will be a sophomore for the Buckeyes this fall, and the national squad kicked off their tour Saturday at the 2007 Women's College Cup site against BYU. The team's second game against SMU is slated for 4 p.m. Sunday and they will conclude their stay in the Lone Star State at 6 p.m. March 28 against host Texas A&M.
The U.S. team is headed up by Jillian Ellis, who brought a total of 22 players to Texas in preparation for qualifying for the 2008 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup, which will be held in Chile.
