Lori Walker Announces Buckeyes' 2014 Schedule
March 13, 2014
COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's soccer team has released its 2014 schedule, head coach Lori Walker announced Thursday. The Buckeyes, who finished 2013 with a 10-7-3 record and advanced to their fifth-consecutive NCAA Tournament, will take on 11 NCAA Tournament teams from last season.
“The 2014 schedule takes into account our desire to incorporate several variables including being challenged physically, technically and tactically by high level opponents, playing a variety of styles to help the team prepare for conference play, as well as positioning ourselves to have one of the strongest schedules in our conference,” Walker said. “Playing four ACC opponents, including a preseason scrimmage, will no doubt challenge our squad and demand a tone for our summer conditioning and preseason preparation. The quality of play in the Big Ten will be exciting this year. With the addition of two new teams, no one can clearly predict a top dog. It is refreshing to have new rivalries emerge and position Big Ten women’s soccer as the best conference in the country top to bottom.”
After a scrimmage at 2013 NCAA participant Wake Forest Aug. 16, Ohio State travels to Chapel Hill, N.C., to take on 2013 NCAA quarterfinalists Duke Aug. 22 and host North Carolina Aug. 24. The Buckeyes open their home slate Aug. 31 against NCAA semifinalist Virginia Tech before traveling for a Sept. 2 match at Toledo. Ohio State hosts a tournament Sept. 5-7, taking on Dayton in the Friday game before facing George Mason Sunday.
Big Ten play starts with road contests at Indiana Sept. 12, at Purdue Sept. 14 and at Penn State Sept. 19 before hosting Illinois Sept. 26 and Northwestern Sept. 28. The Buckeyes travel to Wisconsin Oct. 3 and Minnesota Oct. 5 before a welcoming Maryland to the conference with a home match Oct. 11. Ohio State then hits the road to face Michigan State Oct. 16 and Michigan Oct. 19 before concluding the regular season with home matches against Iowa Oct. 24, Nebraska Oct. 26 and new Big Ten member Rutgers Oct. 31.
The Big Ten Tournament is set for Nov. 5-9 in West Lafayette, Ind., with NCAA play starting the weekend of Nov. 14-16.
