COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team has inked 12 members and one transfer to the 2013 recruiting class, head coach Lori Walker announced Monday.
The class includes three forwards, four forward/midfielders, three midfielders, two defenders and a goalkeeper.
"The 2013 class is one of the strongest in Ohio State program history," Ohio State head coach Lori Walker said. "My staff (including new recruiting coordinator Jason Goodson, associate head coach Glen Tourville and former associate head coach Greg Miller) and I, worked tirelessly to find the right balance of soccer skill and athleticism necessary to remain among the elite in collegiate women's soccer. There is so much International as well as national program experience in this group that we are confident several will have an immediate impact. One of the most important qualities we look for in players is a proven winning mentality and that is seen across the success of all the clubs represented."
The 12 Buckeye recruits and a transfer from BYU hail from eight states/provinces: three from Ohio (Lindsey Agnew, Donovan Capehart and Nicole Hopkins) and Illinois (Vanessa Abad, Megan Geldernick and Taylor Schissler), two from California (Nicole Miyashiro and Kristen Pavlick) and one each from Ontario, Canada (Nichelle Prince), Maryland (Toni Urovsky), Nevada (Kayla Varner), New Jersey (Bridget Skinner) and North Carolina (Alexis Degler).

Abad has three years of club experience with Sockers FC and lettered all four years at Lake Zurich High School ... a four-year member of ODP Illinois state team and Region II pool ... two-time all-sectional, all-area and all-conference pick for Lake Zurich ... two-year team captain ... tallied 31 goals and 26 assists over her first three high school seasons ... also lettered in basketball and cross country ... enjoys snowboarding, camping, running and spending time with family and friends ... daughter of Michael Abad and Ana Sanchez ... has two sisters, Catalina and Sophia.
Coach Lori Walker: "Vanesa is a player who's shown time and time again her great authority on the ball and has an affinity for scoring. A crafty, intelligent attacking player who loves to combine around defenders, Vanesa brings a variety of attacking options to us next season. Capable of playing in multiple positions, she will add quality depth to our team after playing for Sockers FC (David Richardson and Trey Bradberry)."

Agnew has been a member of Ohio Premier for the last five years and a two-year member of the Canadian U-17 national team ... also lettered all four years at Dublin Jerome ... first team All-Ohio and ESPNHS second team All-American as a junior after helping Dublin Jerome to state finals ... won a silver medal at the 2012 CONCACAF Women's Under-17 Championship in Guatemala ... also represented Canada at the 2012 U-17 Women's World Cup in Azerbaijan ... member of 2011 and 2012 id2/ECNL national camp ... also played three years of basketball at Dublin Jerome ... daughter of Gary and Barb Agnew ... has an older brother, Brett ... father is an assistant coach for the St. Louis Blues of the National Hockey League.
Coach Lori Walker: "Lindsay brings a variety of excellent characteristics. She can run all day, has a knack for scoring goals and defends with fury. Lindsay continuously performs at the highest of levels in our backyard and within one of the most successful clubs in the country (Ohio Premier/Chris King). As a dual citizen, she has made her mark with the U-17 Canadian National Team program. We anticipate Lindsay being a dangerous threat from both central and wide positions on our front line, and she'll have an immediate impact within the Big Ten."
Donavan Capehart - Forward/Midfielder - Orient, Ohio|
Blast FC; Bishop Ready High School
Capehart has played the last eight years for Blast FC and letter all four years at Bishop Ready ... named All-Ohio, All-CCL and also was an all-region selection ... CCL Player of the Year and a team captain ... scored 24 goals and added 30 assists as a senior ... enjoys reading, listening to music and snowboarding ... National Honor Society member ... daughter of Dennis and Trish Capehart ... has two older siblings, Channing and Olivia.

Doni is a proven goal-scorer who has displayed a knack for finding the back of the net throughout her career for Blast FC (Mohammed Razack). '94 CASL Chelsea Ladies; Green Hope High School
Degler has spent the last five years with the '94 CASL Chelsea Ladies, the 2011 and 2012 ECNL national champions ... also tallied 50 goals and 19 assists in two seasons at Green Hope High School ... her 35 goals in 2012 were the most in North Carolina 4A ... named North Carolina 4A all-state as a senior and all-conference and all-region as a junior ... enjoys traveling, golf, shopping and hanging out with friends and family ... daughter of Bob and Connie Degler ... has a younger brother, Jake.
Coach Lori Walker: "As an extremely creative and technically-gifted player, Alexis is the soccer junkie all coaches dream of. Her soccer IQ provides her with solutions that she executes under pressures of time and space. Having played for one of the premier youth clubs in the U.S. (CASL/Damon Nahas) Alexis has proven as a two-time national champion that she's capable of playing on the grandest of stages. Her impact upon our program will be immediate and she will become a crowd favorite as she displays her talents within our midfield. We're extremely fortunate to be adding a player of this quality as she continues our long-standing history of attracting some of the best midfield players the game has to offer."
Megan Geldernick - Goalkeeper - Aurora, Ill.|
Team Chicago Academy; Metea Valley High School
Geldernick has been a member of Team Chicago Academy for the last five years and a four-year letterwinner at Metea Valley ... posted a 0.55 goals-against average as a senior en route to her second-consecutive all-state, all-sectional and all-conference honors ... MaxPreps Player of the Year in 2012 ... helped Team Chicago Academy to a third-place finish at national s after winning the Illinois State Cup in 2012 ... also lettered in basketball ... was a three-time captain of both the soccer and basketball teams at Metea Valley ... enjoys playing soccer, basketball and softball ... daughter of Gary and Carrie Geldernick ... has two older brothers, Christopher and Tyler.

Hopkins has played club soccer for Ohio Premier for the last eight years in addition to four years as a starter at Centerville ... named first team All-Ohio and All-Midwest region in 2011 and 2012 ... a three-time all-conference selection ... member of 2012 and 2013 id2/ECNL camp ... scored 24 goals while adding 15 assists as a defender in high school ... helped Ohio Premier to the Ohio State Cup in 2011 and a sixth-place finish at the 2012 ECNL national championship ... enjoys playing other sports, reading and drawing ... daughter of David and Angelia Hopkins ... has five siblings: Jody, Nathan, Johnny, Ashli and Alex.

Pavlick has played club soccer for Mustang Blast since 2010 ... helped the team to a Cal North State Championship and Region IV championship in 2011 to go along with a fifth-place finish nationally in 2011 and 2012 ... started all four years at San Ramon Valley, leading the team in goals and assists as a senior ... enjoys college football, wakeboarding, swimming, and skiing ... daughter of Jeff and Barb Pavlick.

Prince played club soccer from 2009-11 for Pickering Soccer Club but also was a member of the Canadian U-17 National Team since 2010 ... earned first cap with Canadian Women's National Team in Four Nation's Women's Tournament in China this past January ... came off the bench to score lone goal in Canada's match against Korea Republic ... helped Canadian U-17 team to finals of CONCACAF World Cup qualifier in 2012 ... earned Golden Boot at 2010 and 2011 club nationals, helping Pickering win the tournament both years ... enjoys reading, writing and yoga ... daughter of Fabian and Robin Prince... has two sisters, Christine and Kendra.

Eclipse Select Soccer Club; Lincoln Way Central High School
Schissler has played for Eclipse Select Soccer Club since 2009 after playing a year of varsity soccer at Lincoln Way North in 2010 ... helped Eclipse Select to 2011 U-16 state championship and ECNL club championship ... attended U.S. U-18 national team camp in 2011 ... named all-conference, all-sectional and all-area in 2010 and Lincoln Way North after scoring 29 goals and adding 11 assists ... also lettered in cross country ... enjoys soccer, basketball, running, watching movies and spending time with friends and family ... National Honor Society member ... daughter of Paul and Jenni Schissler ... has an older brother, Tom, and a younger sister, Amber.
Coach Lori Walker: "Taylor is an athletic specimen who will bring a defensive presence to our backline. As a decorated member of the perennial powerhouse Eclipse Soccer Club (Rory Dames), Taylor is accustomed to winning. Taylor's greatest strength is her ability to get forward from a wide defensive position. Her speed and strength are a dangerous and imposing combination, while her long-range service will be a viable threat within Big Ten play. Taylor's recent experience as a member of the U.S. U-18 National Team will be an invaluable asset to this class."
Bridget Skinner - Defender - Middletown, N.J.|
New Jersey ODP Region 1 and PDA Celtic; Middletown High School South
Skinner has five years of ODP experience in New Jersey and started all four years for Middletown High School South ... PDA member for last three years ... 2011 and 2012 first team All-Shore Conference ... 2012 first team all-county ... scored 48 goals to go along with 18 assists from 2010-12 at MHHS ... member of U.S. U-17 Women's National Team pool ... enjoys playing beach volleyball and going to the Jersey Shore boardwalks ... National Honor Society member ... daughter of Dave and Joan Skinner ... has an older brother, Tim.
Coach Lori Walker: "Bridget is a tenacious defender and a fierce competitor who thrives on punishing those that attempt to challenge her. Bridget gained valuable experience from her participation with the U.S. U-17 Women's National program during her career. PDA (Seth Korman) has helped develop her technical range and game savvy by allowing her to compete on the highest stage in the east. Urovsky has played club soccer for Bethesda Freedom to go along with high school soccer at Wootton ... started all four years at Wootton ... helped Bethesda Freedom to the Maryland state cup in 2009 and finals appearances in 2010 and 2011 ... also lettered in basketball ... enjoys playing basketball, boxing, camping and hiking ... daughter of Dave and Teri Urovsky ... has a sister, Tessa, and a brother, Gregory.

Varner played the last two seasons at BYU, tallying a goal and three assists in 33 games ... scored the game-winning penalty kick in BYU's 2012 NCAA Tournament Sweet Sixteen game against Marquette ... 2009 NSCAA All-American Team selection ...
