COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State University women's soccer coach Lori Walker announced today that 12 high school student-athletes have committed to attend Ohio State this fall and play soccer for the Buckeyes. The recruiting class includes five defenders, four midfielders, two goalkeepers and one forward.
"I think this class has as much talent as our 2007 recruiting class that was ranked No. 1 in the Big Ten and No. 13 nationally," Walker said. "We are very pleased with the overall talent level of this group. At least six of these student-athletes, and perhaps more, could step in and play significant minutes for us next season."
The class includes six student-athletes from the state of Ohio, two from New Jersey, one each from the states of Pennsylvania, Virginia and South Carolina, and one from Ontario, Canada.

Devin played high school soccer for Basking Ridge as a freshman and sophomore in 2004 and 2005, lettering each year, before focusing on playing for her club team, Player Development Academy (PDA) Power, during the last two seasons ... she also played for a Parsippany youth team in 2007 ... Devin was one of two freshman starters on a state finalist team and nationally ranked team in 2005 and was second-team all-Skyland Conference as a sophomore ... her PDA Power teams were national finalists in 2005, state cup champs in 2006 and state cup finalists in 2007 ... Parsippany was the USYS regional champion in 2007 and a national semifinalist ... Devin was named to the all-Super Y League team during the Super Y finals held in Tampa, Fla., this past December ... her father played soccer at Franklin and Marshall and her grandfather played for the Latvia national team ... Devin plans to enroll at Ohio State for the spring 2008 quarter and train with the Buckeyes during their spring season.
"Devin is a special player because of her versatility," Walker said. "She has vast experience at center back, outside back, and defensive center mid. She is a well-rounded athlete, who rarely gives away possession; she wins a ton of air balls, and takes great pride in her fitness. She will be utilized in both the midfield and back."

Katie was a two-year soccer letterwinner and two-time team captain for Potomac Falls High School and she also lettered in lacrosse and basketball ... she has played club soccer for the Reston FC since 2004 ... in 2006 she helped her high school win district and regional championships and she was named honorable mention all-metro area by the Washington Post and first-team all-district ... she has served as a team captain for her Reston FC teams that were Virginia state finalists in 2007 and semifinalists in 2005 and 2006 ... Katie played on Reston FC teams that won the 2007 Surf Cup and was a Disney finalist ... she has been selected to the Virginia state ODP program four times (2001-02-03-05) ... outside of athletics Katie is sports editor of her school yearbook, secretary of her senior class and is president of its varsity club.
"Katie is a very well-rounded goalkeeper with solid hands," Walker said. "She has a real grasp on every component of the position, including a keen ability to deal with crosses. We anticipate her challenging for a spot in the goal."

Colleen was a four-year soccer letterwinner for Dublin Coffman High School ... she was named second-team all-state and first team all-Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) as a senior ... she also picked up all-district honors as a senior and was a team captain ... she played on Coffman teams that were Ohio state finalists in 2004 and 2006 ... her club team - Ohio Premier - was a state finalist in 2007 ... Colleen played for Ohio Premier's green team from the U-8 age group through the U-18 group ... with Ohio Premier, she was named four times each to the Ohio South State ODP Team (2004-07), and was three times named to the ODP Region II Team (2004-06) and Region II Pool in 2007 ... Colleen, who has already completed internships with Physiotherapy Associates and with the Ohio State Medical Center, is a member of the Coffman H.S. student athletic council and was part of the student council for three years.
"Colleen is a gifted young player," Walker said. "She has a solid technical foundation, an exceptional ability to win air balls, and she reads the game quite well. She has experience at both center back and as a defensive central midfielder. Her versatility will add depth to both lines."

Brittney was a four-year starter and letterwinner for Penn-Trafford High School and she played club soccer for the Internationals Soccer Club out of Cleveland and for the IFC Blast's U-16 team ... as a senior in 2007 she led Penn-Trafford to the Pennsylvania state championship game and was named Most Valuable Performer ... she was chosen to all-state, all-Western Pennsylvania Interscholastic Athletic League and all-sectional teams as a senior ... the Tribune-Review named Brittney to its Elite 11 team and she was named a Pittsburgh Post-Gazette all-star ... she missed her junior season due to injury, but that did not stop Ohio State coaches from recruiting her or offering a scholarship ... Brittney helped the Internationals SC win the 2007 state championship ... she is a six-year member of the Pa. West ODP team and she is currently on the Region I ODP Team.
"Brittany is a competitive and tenacious defender," Walker said. "She possesses good 1v1 defending abilities, solid speed, and she enjoys being involved in the attack. She most likely will play out wide in the back, and we anticipate she will immediately compete for playing time."

Lauren started and lettered four years for Hillsborough High School and she played six years of club soccer for the Players Development Academy (PDA) Power ... she was named a NJ Girls Soccer Coaches Association Top 20 pick for Central NJ in 2007 and was selected to play in the North/South high school all-star showcase game ... she was a senior captain for Hillsborough as well as its MVP and leading scorer ... Lauren was named all-Skyland Conference as a senior after picking up second-team all-conference honors as a junior ... her PDA Power U-15 team won the Region I championship in 2005 and advanced to the national finals ... the U-15 team was ranked as high as No. 2 in the country that year ... she also played on age group PDA Power teams that were N.J. state champions in 2003 and 2006 and Region I Premier League champions in 2004 and 2006 ... Lauren is the second cousin to former Buckeye co-captain and football All-American Pete Cusick (1972-74) and letterman Martin Cusick (1977).
"Lauren is very cerebral about the game of soccer," Walker said. "She is a solid 1v1 defender and loves to get forward into the attack. Her possession, distribution, and fitness are the strongest areas of her game. We see her playing at an outside back position."

Kelsi is a terrific athlete who played four varsity sports at Sinclair Secondary School (soccer, basketball, ice hockey and lacrosse) ... she has been a member of three Canadian National Team age group soccer teams: U-18, U-17 and U-16 ... she made the national U-18 team as a 15-year-old and participated in the U-18 Canada Games ... she scored during those Canada Games, an experience that still ranks as one of her greatest sports thrills (along with making the team) ... Kelsi also was member and team captain of back-to-back U-16 Ontario Provincial teams that won gold medals at the national games ... she played on teams that won Provincial championships in hockey (playing for Whitby AA Ringette), lacrosse (Sinclair) and her club lacrosse team (Oshawa) won the 2004 Ontario championship ... in 2007 she was named a captain at the National Training Center of Ontario soccer ... not surprisingly, when not competing in some for of athletic endeavor, Kelsi works at a Play It Again Sports store.
"Kelsi has a great frame and presence about her," Walker said. "She brings so much intensity, a strong aerial ability, and a natural instinct for the game. Her international experience will add power and savvy to our backline as we expect her to compete for immediate time."

Caitlyn is a four-year soccer (and basketball) letterwinner at Hilliard Davidson, which was chosen by Sports Illustrated to have the top athletic program in the state, and served as team captain as a junior and senior ... she also competed for the past 12 years with the Ohio Premier Soccer Club ... Caitlyn was named second-team all-Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) as a senior at Davidson and was named to the This Week Newspaper's Super 12 Team ... her team was the district champion with Caitlyn the team MVP ... injured during her junior year, Caitlyn was given the team's "sportsmanship" award ... she was second team all-OCC as both a freshman and sophomore and earned the team's most valuable offensive player award as a sophomore ... she played on Ohio Premier age group club teams that were state champions in 2001 and 2003 ... her 2005 Ohio Premier team was a U.S. Club Soccer national semifinalist and it won a host of championships, including a U.S. Club Soccer regional championship and a PDA College Showcase premier championship ... Caitlyn is editor of The Wildcat newsmagazine, is co-president of student-council and is a member of the National Honor Society.
"Caitlyn is a physically strong and spirited player," Walker said. "She excels in scoring goals in a variety of ways, playing with her back to goal, and combinational play. We expect her to factor significantly within our attack next fall."

One of two goalkeepers in the recruiting class, Kendall was a four-year starter and letterwinner for T.L. Hanna High School ... played club soccer for the Carolina Elite Soccer Academy (CESA) ... Kendall was selected to the 2007 SCHSL all-state and the all-Region I-AAAA team after a terrific season in which she set a school record for shutouts (13) and with a 0.94 goals against average ... holds Hanna H.S. career records in minutes played in goal, saves and wins ... selected team captain as a junior and senior ... helped lead team to the 2006-07 region championship with the 2006 title the first in the school's history ... helped lead CESA to four South Carolina state club championships (2004-07) and to the quarterfinals of the 2006 and 2007 Region III tournaments ... chosen as CESA's captain in 2007 and a member of the 2004 and 2005 South Carolina development team ... Kendall is a member of the National Honor Society and Young Life.
"Kendall has natural instincts about the game, particularly when it comes to her shot-stopping ability," Walker said. "She distributes the ball well and has solid hands. She will provide a great deal of depth to our goalkeeping core."

Paige was a four-year starter and senior captain for Median High School and she played club soccer with the Cleveland-based Internationals Soccer Club ... she was chosen a 2007 NSCAA/adidas High School All-American and a 2007 NSCAA/adidas Youth All-American ... Paige was a first-team all-Ohio selection in 2007 and the Cleveland Plain Dealer's '07 player of the year ... she also earned all-Ohio honors in 2005 and 2006 ... named all-Medina County four times including county MVP in 2007 ... also earned four Pioneer Conference honors with an MVP award in 2004 as well ... Paige helped the Internationals SC win the 2006 regional championship and earn a spot in the national tournament ... she also played on club teams that won a Super Y national championship in 2004 and state championships in 2006 and 2007 ... a member of the U-17 and U-16 US Youth National Team pools in 2007 and 2006, respectively, Paige was also a four-time state club team honoree ... she is active as a local volunteer and with her church's children's ministries programs.
"Paige is a goal-scoring forward who is very athletic, dynamic, unpredictable, and has excellent pace," Walker said. "She will cause a lot of problems for opponents because of her strength and size as well as many different ways of scoring. She can have an immediate impact in our front three."

"Liz" was a three-year starter and letterwinner for Olentangy Liberty H.S., which is located just outside of Columbus ... she played in the Worthington United club team program for seven years and played the last two years of club soccer for Ohio Premier ... she also played for the Region II ODP Team for three years, ... Liz, a two-time team captain and team defensive MVP for Olentangy Liberty, earned first-team all Ohio Capital Conference honors as a high school junior and senior and she was second-team all-state in 2007 as a senior ... also named to the all-Central District team in 2007 and was awarded the Central Ohio Player Sportsmanship Award ... Liz works as a student mentor, helping freshman adjust to the rigors of high school ... she is vice president of her school's Spanish club and she is a member of the Saint Francis of Assisi Catholic Church student group called the Justice League.
"Liz is a no-nonsense defender who enjoys taking risks with both her body and the ball," Walker said. "Her athleticism, 1v1 defending, strong aerial presence, and ability to strike the ball with either foot will allow her to compete for time immediately in the back."

Danielle is a four-year starter and letterwinner for Dublin Scioto High School ... she also played for the Ohio Premier club team ... as a senior in 2007, she led the Irish in scoring and assists and was named team Most Valuable Player ... she was named first-team all-Ohio Capital Conference (OCC) and first-team all-district ... she also led the team in assists as a junior ... Danielle was second-team all-OCC as a sophomore and junior ...team was OCC champs in 2004 ... her Ohio Premier teams were four-time state cup semifinalists and was a finalist in 2007 ... Danielle was named to the Ohio Development Program state team in 2004, 2005 and 2007 ... lettered one year in track and field ... she is a member of the National Honor Society and the Scioto High School student senate and senior cabinet.
"Dani is a smart and extremely fit player with the athletic tools to be successful at this level," Walker said. "She has been resourceful at the youth level, playing a variety of different positions. We love the options she gives us as a versatile, committed workhorse."

Brook was a four-year starter and letterwinner in soccer who also lettered four years in basketball for Sylvania Northview High School ... Northview won Northern Lakes League soccer championships all four years ... played club soccer with the Cleveland-based Internationals Soccer Club ... as a senior in 2007 Brook was Northview's team captain and Most Valuable Performer and she led the team, which advanced to the regional semifinals, in assists ... she earned all-district honors and was named to the NLL's senior all-academic team ... was chosen second-team all-district as a sophomore and junior and led the team in goals (2005) and assists (2006) ... Brook helped the Internationals SC win the 2006 regional championship and earn a spot in the national tournament ... she also played on club teams that won state championships in 2006 and 2007 ... she is a member of the National Honor Society and Ohio's Future Educators of America.
"Brook is a talented player with a blue-collar mentality," Walker said. "She is not afraid to get her uniform dirty. Her work rate, technical ability, and competitive fire will add depth to either our frontline or midfield."
