Columbus, Ohio - Ohio State women's soccer players Jen Miller (Sr., Centerville, Ohio) and Danielle Dietrich (Fr., Cincinnati, Ohio) were recognized by Soccer Buzz magazine for their outstanding efforts during the 2002 season. Miller was named All-Great Lakes Region Second Team, while Dietrich earned Honorable Mention merits on the Soccer Buzz Freshman All-America squad.
Miller, an Academic All-American in District IV, was the catalyst of the OSU defense that held its opponents to 1.00 goal per match as the seventh-seeded Buckeyes captured the school's first Big Ten Tournament title, which advanced OSU to its first-ever birth in the NCAA Tournament.
The Centerville, Ohio-product netted crucial penalty kicks in Ohio State's quarterfinal and semifinal shoot out wins over then-No. 24 Michigan and then-No. 19 Purdue and led the OSU defense that held Wisconsin to just three total shots in the tournament final.
Miller is also a major contributor on the offensive end, as she registered four goals and a team-best six assists to finish third on the team with 14 total points. She was recognized by Soccer America for her efforts in consecutive 1-0 wins over Wisconsin and Minnesota on the weekend of Oct. 18-20. In the Minnesota match, Miller netted the game-winning goal in the 107th minute of play for the double-overtime victory.
Dietrich contributed on both the offensive and defensive ends as she started 20 games in her initial season with the Buckeyes playing through both a broken wrist and fractured foot. Dietrich utilized her height advantage to often win balls for the OSU attack in midfield situations and also contributed six points on two goals and two assists.
Dietrich was moved up to forward in the 2-1 Ohio State win over Illinois and responded with a goal and assisted on the game-winning score. She added her second goal in Ohio State's 3-0 victory over Kent State.
