COLUMBUS, Ohio – Izzy Rodriguez, a freshman on the Ohio State women’s soccer team, has been named to the 20-player roster for the U.S. U-20 Women’s National Team at the 2018 CONCACAF Women’s U-20 Championship, head coach Jitka Klimkova announced Wednesday.
A native of Canton, Mich., Rodriguez is one of 16 collegiate players to make the roster. The U.S. opens play against Nicaragua Jan. 19 at Ato Boldon Stadium in Couva, Trinidad. The 2018 CONCACAF Women's U-20 Championship features eight nations divided into two groups of four teams. The top two finishers in each group will qualify for the semifinals, with the winners of those games along with the winner of the third-place match earning berths to the 2018 FIFA U-20 Women's World Cup in France.
Rodriguez started all 21 matches at left back, ranking fourth on the team with five assists as a freshman in 2017. The third team All-Big Ten honoree and member of the Big Ten All-Freshman team assisted on a pair of goals in the win against Illinois while assisting on Nikki Walts’ game-winner against Michigan State.
