OSU vs. MSU Highlights
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Behind two goals from Tiffany Cameron, the Ohio State women's soccer team extended its win streak to five games with a 3-1 win over Michigan State on Senior Day Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. Cameron's second goal of the day tied her with Lara Dickenmann and Lisa Grubb for the Ohio State career goals list at 35.
With the win, Ohio State improves to 12-4-1, 7-2-1 in the Big Ten while Michigan State falls to 8-8-2, 2-7-1 in conference play.
"We had to make a few personnel adjustments today so it was a matter of keeping a rhythm and making sure we took care of the ball," head coach Lori Walker said. "We chased a little bit early but once we settled down we were able to control the game. Michigan State has some threats but we did a good job of keeping pressure on the ball for most of the match and taking care of business."
Ohio State took the lead in the 24th minute when Cameron possessed a flick from Ellyn Gruber and finished far post from 10 yards out for the 1-0 advantage.
Michigan State's Olivia Stander almost knotted the score in the 33rd minute on a strike from 25 yards out but Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker was able to make the leaping save and deflect the ball over the crossbar.
Cameron then pushed the lead to 2-0 in the 38th minute, heading home a cross from Caroline Murray for her record 16th goal of the season and 35th of her career.
Ohio State took the 2-0 advantage into the break after holding a 10-5 lead in shots, including 6-1 on goal, over the first 45 minutes.
Michigan State was able to get on the board first in a very physical second half when Chelsea Peterson headed in a cross from Stander to cut the Ohio State lead to 2-1 in the 65th minute.
Lauren Granberg almost pushed the lead to 3-1 in the 75th minute but her shot from 25 yards out banged off the crossbar and was cleared away. However, five minutes later, Granberg was able to finish with a header from six yards out off a Megan Fuller corner to cap the scoring at 3-1.
For the game, Ohio State outshot the Spartans 25-8, 8-4 on goal. Granberg tallied a team-high eight shots for Ohio State while McVicker made three saves.
