OSU vs. Purdue Highlights
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team edged Purdue, 1-0, on Buckeyes Go Pink Day Sunday afternoon at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the win, Ohio State improves to 8-4-1, 3-2-1 in Big Ten play, while Purdue drops to 7-5-2, 2-3-1 in conference play.
"It was a little slow and methodical but we were able to do what we need to today," head coach Lori Walker said. "Tiffany was extremely special today and it was nice to honor a lot of women we really look up to. They represent what courage really stands for so it was nice to honor them on our breast cancer awareness day."
The Buckeyes' first chance of the game came in the seventh minute when Michela Paradiso received a pass at the top of the box from Tiffany Cameron, dribbled around a Purdue defender and fired a shot that was deflected over the crossbar by goalkeeper Clara Kridler.
The Buckeyes controlled possession for much of the remainder of the first half but were unable to get on the board until Cameron gave the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead in the 41st minute. Kenzie Schlemitz played a long ball after gaining possession off of a Purdue corner and Cameron dribbled past the Purdue defense, finishing from 10 yards under the arms of a diving Kridler.
Ohio State took a 1-0 lead into the break, holding a 7-3 advantage in shots, 2-0 on goal.
Cameron almost added another in the 55th minute but her shot from eight yards out on the right wing was deflected by Kridler off the post and cleared away.
The Buckeyes had another opportunity in the 74th minute when Aly Walker played a free kick into the box for Lauren Granberg but Kridler was right there again to make the save on Granberg's header from six yards out. Five minutes later, Cameron tracked down a long ball from Danica Wu and Kridler was able to make another save on Cameron's shot from six yards out.
Purdue was unable to create any more chances over the final 10 minutes as the Buckeyes came away with the victory.
Up next, Ohio State travels to Iowa Oct. 12 and Nebraska Oct. 14.
