OSU vs. Duquesne Highlights
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team recorded its fifth consecutive shutout, defeating Duquesne 3-0 Sunday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 5-2-0 on the season while the Dukes fall to 2-4-1.
"We came out really focused tonight," head coach Lori Walker said. "The first half was really special, scoring three fantastic goals with several players involved. It had to be a team effort tonight to open up space and I was really pleased that we were able to do that. The second half was a little lackluster and we need to improve on that heading into Big Ten play."
Michela Paradiso gained possession inside the box, turned and fired a shot from 10 yards that sailed just high in the 10th minute.
The Buckeyes then took the lead in the 13th minute when Tiffany Cameron tracked down a long ball from Danica Wu and flicked it over the head over Duquesne keeper Devon Tabata from 20 yards out for the 1-0 lead. Less than a minute later. Cameron passed to Lauren Granberg at the top of the box and Granberg finished from 20 yards to double the Ohio State advantage.
Ohio State almost added another in the 19th minute when Samantha Lewis gained control off a corner and launched a low shot from 20 yards out but it was saved off the line by a Duquesne defender. The Buckeyes then tacked on another in the 35th when Cameron finished from 18 yards off a long ball from Wu to make it 3-0.
Ohio State took the 3-0 lead into the half, holding a 9-3 advantage in shots including 7-1 on goal.
Duquesne tallied its best chance in the 54th minute when Maggie Conrad took a shot from 20 yards out but Ohio State goalkeeper Rachel Middleman ranged to her right to make a diving save and preserve the shutout.
Cameron almost recorded the hat trick in the 63rd minute when she controlled a cross from Ashley Gruenbaum in the middle of the box but her shot from eight yards sailed just high. The senior forward then had another opportunity in the 81st minute when she controlled a cross from Ellyn Gruber but her shot from 10 yards out narrowly missed wide right.
With just under five minutes remaining, Samantha Lewis almost added another for the Buckeyes but her shot from 10 yards out on the right wing sailed just high.
For the game, Ohio State outshot Duquesne 21-7, including 10-4 on goal. Cameron tallied six shots, four on goal for the Buckeyes, who recorded their fifth consecutive shutout.
The Buckeyes open Big Ten play against Minnesota at 1 p.m. Sunday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium.
