COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women’s soccer team topped USF, 6-2, Sunday night at Bert L. & Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 4-0-1 on the year while the Bulls fall to 3-2-0.
“We talked a lot about capitalizing on opportunities high up the field and I thought we matched up well against them systematically,” Lori Walker-Hock, Ohio State head coach, said. “We did a really good job of capitalizing on their mistakes. I’m really pleased with the variety in our attack and the ability to have six different players score a goal.”
BUCKS FIND THE BACK OF THE NET TWICE EARLY
In the seventh minute, Arden Holden possessed on the left wing after a Sammy Edwards flick and squared a centering pass to Eleanor Gabriel, who finished inside the right post past USF goalkeeper Kat Elliott for the 1-0 advantage.
Just 39 seconds later, the Buckeyes caught Elliott out of goal as Gabriel gathered on the left side of the box and passed to Meghan Kammerdeiner, who slotted a low shot from 10 yards past Elliott and just inside the left post.
KNIGHT KEEPS IT A 2-0 CONTEST
In the 22nd minute Evelyne Viens snuck through the middle of the Buckeye defense to slot a through ball to Anyssa Ibrahim who took a shot from 10 yards on the right wing but Ohio State’s Kylie Knight was there to clear it off the line and keep it a 2-0 game.
LIPSEY PUSHES ADVANTAGE TO 3-0
In the 41st minute, freshman Lexxe Lipsey scored her first-career goal on a left-footed blast from the top of the 18-yard box just inside the upper-left corner to make it a 3-0 game.
Less than a minute later, a failed clearance fell to Aubrey Megrath at the center of the box, where she finished from six yards to cut the Buckeye lead to 3-1.
EDWARDS MAKES IT 4-1
Less than two minutes into the second half, Nikki Walts played a long ball to Sammy Edwards, who snuck in behind the USF defense and volleyed it home from six yards to push the lead to 4-1.
ROBERTS ADDS ANOTHER
Six minutes later, Sarah Roberts took the ball away from a USF defender and chipped a shot from the top right corner of the box inside the far post to make it a 5-1 contest.
WALTS BENDS ONE IN TO MAKE IT 6-1
In the 68th minute Walts capped the Buckeye scoring with a beautiful free kick for her first goal of the season. The senior bent in a left-footed free kick from the right wing just inside the right post for a five-goal lead.
The Bulls added one more three minutes later but that’s as close as they’d get as Ohio State came away with the 6-2 victory.
