OSU vs. Syracuse Highlights
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team shut out Syracuse, 2-0, Sunday evening at Bert L. and Iris S. Wolstein Field at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the win, Ohio State improves to 3-2-0 while Syracuse falls to 2-2-1.
After a quiet first 25 minutes, Syracuse tallied the first two shots of the game back-to-back and the Buckeyes came right back down and recorded their first chance, but Michela Paradiso's shot from 20 yards out narrowly missed wide right.
Lauren Granberg then gave the Buckeyes the lead in the 32nd, finishing from eight yards out off a cross from Samantha Lewis. Neither team was able to muster much the rest of the half as Ohio State took a 1-0 lead into halftime.
Ohio State held a 5-2 lead in shots over the first 45 minutes, including 2-1 on goal. The Buckeyes also tallied three corners to zero for Syracuse.
Ohio State almost added to its lead in the 59th minute but Syracuse goalkeeper Brittany Anghel was able to come out and make a diving save off Granberg's breakaway opportunity. Three minutes later, Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker ranged far to her left to make a diving save on a shot from the top of the box by Alyscha Mottershead to preserve the 1-0 advantage.
With less than 10 minutes remaining, Tiffany Cameron tracked down a long ball from Paradiso, made a run parallel to the end line and finished near post past Anghel from six yards out for the Buckeyes' insurance tally.
For the game, Ohio State held a 10-7 advantage in shots, including 4-2 on goal. The Buckeyes also tallied six corners to two for the Orange.
Up next, the Buckeyes host Missouri at 7 p.m. Thursday and Duquesne at 6 p.m. Sunday.
