CORAL GABLES, Fla. – The Ohio State women’s soccer team edged Miami, 2-1, Friday night at Cobb Stadium in Coral Gables, Fla. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 3-0-0 on the year while the Hurricanes drop to 2-1-0.
The Buckeyes scored first for the third-consecutive game when Lindsay Agnew possessed off a Hurricane turnover and made a run parallel to the end line on the right wing before finishing near post from six yards past Miami goalkeeper Phallon Tullis-Joyce to give Ohio State the 1-0 lead in the 11th minute.
Ohio State had another opportunity in the 20th minute when Nichelle Prince gathered at the center of the box off a throw-in, turned and fired toward the left post but Tullis-Joyce was there to make the save.
The Hurricanes’ best chance of the first half came in the 40th minute when Lexi Castellano headed a Shannon McCarthy free kick but Ohio State goalkeeper Jillian McVicker was there to make the save.
For the half, each team tallied four shots with Miami holding the 3-2 lead in shots on frame.
Miami then knotted it up less than two minutes into the second half when Kristina Fisher scored off a Niccola Venezia assist to make it a 1-1 game.
Less than two minutes later, Prince had a chance to put the Buckeyes back on top once again but Tullis-Joyce was up to the task to keep the match tied. Tullis-Joyce again thwarted another prince opportunity in the 61st minute as the match remained deadlocked.
For the game, Ohio State held an 11-6 lead in shot, including 7-4 on goal. The Buckeyes held an 8-1 lead in shots on frame.
Ohio State travels to face Florida Gulf Coast at 6 p.m. Sunday.
