OSU vs. Northeastern Highlights
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The Ohio State women's soccer team picked up its first win of the season, a 3-0 decision over Northeastern, Friday evening at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. With the win, the Buckeyes improve to 1-2-0 while the Huskies fall to 0-2-0.
"Being at home is always a huge help," Ohio State head coach Lori Walker said. "We had tremendous activity from our freshmen and some of our key goal scorers collected points to help us build some confidence in our attack. We have to continue to play faster and be dangerous both attacking and defending to play well Sunday against Maryland."
After an early chance by Lauren Granberg went awry, Tiffany Cameron capitalized on the Buckeyes second opportunity for a 1-0 lead in the 20th minute. Michela Paradiso played a long ball from midfield and Cameron slipped in behind the Northeastern defense, controlled just inside the box and finished from eight yards out.
Neither team was able to muster much the rest of the half as Ohio State went into the break with a 1-0 lead. The Buckeyes held a narrow 5-4 lead in shots, including 2-1 on goal, at the half.
Ohio State then tallied a pair of excellent opportunities less than two seconds into the second half. Kristen Niederhaus possessed 30 yards out and drilled a shot that deflected off the cross bar and out of play in the 47th minute. Less than a minute later, Granberg got in behind the Husky defense and beat goalkeeper Paige Burnett from the top of the box but her shot narrowly missed wide left.
The Buckeyes then doubled their lead in the 61st minute when Paradiso found Granberg with a cross far post for a header from inside the six-yard box.
Ohio State put the game away in the 67th minute when Marisa Wolf scored her first career goal, controlling a long ball from Granberg and finishing from 10 yards out to give Ohio State a 3-0 lead.
Katelyn Kraft almost tallied her first career goal in the 80th minute but her header from six yards out off a cross from Cameron caromed off the crossbar.
For the game, Ohio State held a 13-7 advantage in shots, including 6-1 on goal. The Buckeyes also tallied five corner kicks to three for the Huskies.
