COLUMBUS, Ohio - Patricia Goodeman, an Ohio State rowing letterwinner from 2006-08, died early Friday morning at the age of 26.
Goodeman began her Buckeye career in 2005 as a member of the novice rowing team. She was subsequently promoted to varsity status her sophomore season and rowed three seat for the Second Varsity Eight throughout the regular season before moving to the First Varsity Four during the postseason. During her stint with the 2V8, Goodeman and the Second Varsity Eight crew earned Big Ten Boat of the Week honors April 11, 2006 after impressive wins against USC and Tennessee. By helping the First Varsity Four win the Petite Final at the Big Ten championships, the Buckeyes won their second conference title in program history and soon afterwards, the 1V4 finish third in the Grand Final of the NCAA championships. The 1V4 also helped Ohio State capture its fourth-consecutive Central Region crown as it finished second in the Grand Final.
In 2007, Goodeman was again promoted, this time to the First Varsity Eight. Goodeman and the 1V8 opened the season with a win vs. No. 1 and defending national champion Princeton. En route to earning the team Most Improved Rower Award, Goodeman and the 1V8 were NCAA Grand Final runners-up, which still serves as the best NCAA finish by an Ohio State first-varsity boat. Additionally, Ohio State finished third as a team that season in the NCAA championships, an Ohio State best. Prior to the national championships, Goodeman and the First Varsity Eight finished second in the Grand Final of the Central Region championships as the Scarlet and Gray claimed its fifth-consecutive regional title.
In her senior season, Goodeman earned several individual laurels. She was named Second Team All-Central Region, as well as First Team All-Big Ten. A 2008 Ohio State Scholar-Athlete, Goodeman graduated from Ohio State with a degree in logistics management in 2008.
A native of Waterville, Ohio, Goodeman attended Anthony Wayne High School (Class of 2003).
Goodeman recently completed the 2011 Columbus half-marathon and was an enthusiastic cyclist, riding in Pelotonia 2011.
