COLUMBUS, Ohio - For the Ohio State rowing team, the novices were the focus of the squad's home regatta last Sunday, Nov. 15 at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River. Assistant coach Chuck Rodosky was pleased overall with the first years' accomplishments.

"This scrimmage fit the purpose of having the novices side-by-side with other schools, getting the experience they need," Rodosky said. "They executed well and did what they were supposed to do. We were happy with their performance."

Among the novices are Kelly Frecker, Kyrsten French and Allison Williams. The team competed against Dayton, Indiana and Michigan State, which have also been preparing for the upcoming 2010 season.

"We wanted it to be a championship atmosphere," Rodosky said. "It was great to have other schools participate and we had good weather."

Rodosky's objective is to build a strong team from within, starting with the youngest rowers.

"One of our goals this year is to produce rowers who will support the squad," Rodosky said. "I feel they have high potential."

The regatta marked the end of the team's outdoor practices to finish out the fall season. They will continue working indoors throughout the winter months in preparation for the 2010 season.
