COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team hosted Notre Dame, Michigan State and Indiana in its second and final fall scrimmage of the season, Saturday, winning 14 of the 15 races held at Griggs Reservoir.
“Overall this was a very successful day and a great way to wrap up our fall season,” Ohio State head coach Andy Teitelbaum said. “We feel really encouraged by what we have seen out of our student-athletes but we know there is some tremendous competition waiting for us this spring and now we need to focus on preparing for that.”
The racing format for the varsity squads consisted of five racing pieces with a rating cap of 32 strokes per minute. The teams raced in three flights, separating into ‘A’ boats, ‘B’ boats and ‘C’ boats.
Saturday’s racing also provided an opportunity for the Buckeye novice team to compete in its first event of the fall season. The racing format was slightly different for the novice squad as the teams competed in three racing pieces each lasting for seven minutes.
“This was a great opportunity for the novice team to experience outside competition and I was very happy with how the team approached each piece,” Ohio State novice coach Chuck Rodosky said.
The Buckeyes enter into winter training before kicking off the spring season against Princeton and Brown in Princeton, N.J., March 30.
