Former Ohio State rowing letterwinner Margot Shumway will compete in the Olympics Grand Final in Women's Double Sculls on Friday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Margot Shumway, a former Ohio State rowing letterwinner (2001, '02), advanced to the Grand Final of the Women's Double Sculls event at the London Olympics Tuesday at the Eton Dorney Rowing Centre.
Shumway and teammate Sarah Trowbridge crossed the line in 7:10.37 to finish in second place just behind the Chinese team that finished first with a time of 7:09.65. Both teams advanced to secure the final placements for the Grand Final Friday.
The U.S. team had to put forth a solid effort in securing the final qualifying position, as they were .39 seconds behind the Czech Republic team at the 1500-meter mark. However, the U.S. team was able to pull just ahead during the last 500 meters of the race to advance.
The Czech Republic team rounded out the Top 3 finishers, clocking in with a time of 7:11.68. Germany placed fourth with a time of 7:18.37, while The Netherlands and Ukraine finished the race in fifth and sixth with respective times of 7:19.80 and 7:23.02.
The Grand Final of the Women's Double Sculls event will be held Friday, Aug. 3 at the Eton Dorney Rowing Centre. The race is scheduled to begin at 5:30 a.m. ET, with the U.S. team set to face competition from Australia, China, Great Britain, New Zealand and Poland.
