COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ulrike Denker and Claudia Schiwy, members of the Ohio State rowing team, were named Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association Pocock Second Team All-Americans, the CRCA announced. The honor complements the pair's First Team All-Big Ten and All-Central region accolades collected just two weeks ago.
Denker and Schiwy rowed in the First Varsity Eight during the 2011 season and helped the Buckeyes win the program's third Big Ten championship May 15 at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind. The 1V8 needed either a win or second-place finish to lock up the team title and managed to clip Michigan by .48 seconds for a runner-up finish.
Additionally, the Scarlet and Gray finished 10th as a team at the NCAA championships May 29 on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Appearing in their 12th-consecuitve national championship, the Buckeyes, led by head coach Andy Teitelbaum, earned their 11th Top 10 finish in program history.
