COLUMBUS, Ohio – Five members of the Ohio State women’s rowing team received All-Region honors from the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA) last week. Catherine Shields, Stephanie Williams, Sarah Davis and Sarah Asad were named First Team All-Region, while Annie Jachthuber was awarded second-team honors.
All five athletes were members of the First Varsity Eight for the majority of the season, with Jachthuber competing with the First Varsity Four at the NCAA championships. The First Varsity Eight won its third-consecutive national title on Sunday and finished the season with a 46-2 record, while the First Varsity Four placed fifth overall at the national championships.
Shields earned her third CRCA First Team honor, while Davis collected her second All-Region award after being named Second Team All-Region in 2015. Asad, Jachthuber and Williams are first-time honorees.
Student-athletes nominated for the award are evaluated on the strength of the team’s regional finish, coaches’ recommendations and their individual 2,000-meter erg score. In addition, the student-athletes must have competed in at least 75 percent of team races throughout the season.
In addition, 22 Buckeyes were named CRCA Scholar-Athletes: Asad, Davis, Shields, Williams, Allyson Baker, Katelyn Carson, Emily Caudle, Maggie Creely, Joan Darnell, Anne Dietrich, Rachel Engel, Stephanie Gase, Hanna Gottschalk, Chelsea Harpool, Morgan Hummel, Cassandra Johnson, Kaylee Koker, Catherine McNutt, Laura Monteso Esmel, Bianca Piloseno, Anna Ralph and Karen Somes.
