COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State rowing team finished 10th at the 2011 NCAA Championships Sunday on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. The Buckeyes were paced by the Second Varsity Eight, which accrued 26 of the Scarlet and Gray’s 44 points, with a fourth-place finish in the Grand Final.
The First Varsity Four finished second in the Petite Final for an eighth-place finish overall. The First Varsity Eight was the second boat to cross the finish line in the third-level final. 
Brown won the team title with 85 points, followed by Stanford (85)* and California (83).
In the first event of the morning for the Buckeyes, the 1V4 of coxswain Kristin DiJosie, Stephanie Johnson, Kara Shropshire, Jill Mohr and Emily Ralph began the race in second place behind Princeton. However, the Scarlet and Gray overcame the Tigers and took the lead with about 1,000 meters to go. The advantage was short-lived and Ohio State dropped to second where it would finish in 7:18.32. The time served as the 1V4’s top time during the three-day championships. 
The 2V8 (Corinne Meinert, Tess Prescott, Mandy Merritt, Samantha Fowle, Ingrid Aasaaren, Ellen Heister, Anniken Ellingsen, Kate Sweeney and coxswain Samantha Getz)  raced a tough field that featured Stanford, Brown, California, Virginia and USC. The Buckeyes remained fourth throughout the race, eventually finishing in 6:33.42, which was the crew’s best time in the championships. 
The 1V8’s (Claudia Herpertz, Carolin Helmholz, Allison Elber, Caroline McPherson, Claire-Louise Bode, Emily Walsh, Claudia Schiwy, Ulrike Denker and coxswain Erika Benford)   second-place outing wrapped up the championships for Ohio State. The boat held on to the runner-up position throughout the race and sounded the horn in 6:36.62.
