COLUMBUS, Ohio - Charlott Goldstein and Sara Wallace, members of the Ohio State rowing team were named to the 2010 Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association All-Central Region Team the group announced Wednesday. Goldstein earned first team honors and Wallace was a second-team recipient.
Goldstein (Berlin, Germany) and Wallace (Lebanon, Ohio) are now eligible for All-America selections following the NCAA Rowing championships Friday-Sunday on Lake Natoma in Gold River, Calif. Nominated student-athletes were evaluated on their team's regional finish, coaches' recommendations and 2,000-meter erg score. Also, recipients had to have participated in 75 percent of spring races.
The Buckeye pair will row in the First Varsity Eight this weekend in Ohio State's 11th-consecutive team appearance in the NCAA championships. The Scarlet and Gray's First Varsity Four received an at-large bid in 1997, bringing the program's total showings to 12.
Additionally, the CRCA announced the 2010 Scholar-Athletes. Ten Buckeyes represented Ohio State on the academic list - Ingrid Aasaaren, Ulrike Denker, Kristin DiJosie, Katie Flarida, Carolin Helmholz, Claudia Herpertz, Emily Ralph, Claudia Schiwy, Erin Shropshire and Lindsey Titus. In order to become a scholar-athlete, student-athletes had to maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or higher during their career through the fall quarter of 2009, be at least in their second year of eligibility and row in 75 percent of spring races or compete in the regional event.
