No. 4 Buckeyes Set to Host Regular Season Finale this Weekend

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No.4 Ohio State rowing team will return to Columbus for its final home regatta of the season Saturday and will host No. 2 Virginia, No. 3 Michigan, No. 14 Harvard and No. 19 Clemson. The Buckeyes will race against the Tigers in the morning session at 9 a.m. and will row against the Cavaliers in the afternoon session which is slated to begin at 1 p.m. The Buckeyes will race against the Wolverines and the Crimson in special races throughout the regatta.

Ohio State has risen to its highest ranking of the season and is now fourth in the latest CRCA/US Rowing Coaches Poll released Wednesday. Ohio State was previously ranked eighth and is one of four Big Ten teams in the Top 20 Michigan (3), Wisconsin (9) and Michigan State (13).

Senior Send Off
Eleven Buckeyes will row in their final regatta on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir on Saturday. The seniors in their final home regatta are Sarah Cornish, Ulrike Denker, Ashley Dzurnak, Ellen Heister, Claudia Herpertz, Charlene Jones, Emily Ralph, Claudia Schiwy, Kara Shropshire, Kate Sweeney and Emily Walsh. These seniors will be racing in the First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight, First Varsity Four, Second Varsity Four and Third Varsity Four races.

Boat of the Week
The First Varsity Eight was named the Big Ten Conference Co-Boat of the Week for the week of April 10. Ohio State shared the honor with Michigan’s First Varsity Eight. It is the first weekly laurel for the Buckeyes this season and first since 2009.

On a Roll
The then-No. 6 Buckeyes continued their strong season by beating Oklahoma, Oregon State and Tennessee April 14. The Buckeyes won all six races en route to defeating the Sooners and then earned six victories over the Beavers and Lady Volunteers. The Buckeyes recorded 12 wins in a total of 14 races for the day. Good Times
Each of Ohio State’s three championship boats (First Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and First Varsity Four) is winning its races by an average time of more than eight seconds. The 1V8 is winning by an average time of 8.25 seconds, while the 2V8 is beating their opponents by an average margin of 13.38 seconds. Finally, the 1V4 is crossing the finish line by an average of 15.22 seconds over the second-place finisher.
