Second Varsity Eight

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State second varsity eight has been named Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award marks the second consecutive weekly honor for the second varsity eight and the third consecutive weekly honor for the team this season.
The crew of Daphne Socha, Katie Beletskaya, Silvia De Matteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicole Becks, Lauren Eckles, Samantha Fowle, Catherine Shields and coxswain Victoria Lazur won all three of its races at the Clemson Invitational April 20-21, defeating No. 3 Virginia by 8.1 seconds, No. 14 Clemson by 10.4 seconds and No. 5 UCLA by 11.1 seconds. In all, the second varsity eight defeated four ranked teams at the event.
The second varsity eight improves to 7-0 this season and now holds a 16-0 regular season record dating back to March 24, 2012.
The Buckeyes return to action Saturday, May 4 at 9 a.m. against Harvard on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir.
