First Varsity Eight Earns Big Ten Boat of the Week Honors

COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 3 Ohio State rowing first varsity eight has been named Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The award marks the second weekly honor for the crew and the third weekly honor for the team this season.
The crew of Aina Cid Centelles, Elodie Ravera-Scarramozzino, Eelkje Miedema, Ashley Bauer, Stephanie Williams, Catherine Shields, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Victoria Lazur earned two wins over Top 10 opponents at the Big Ten/ACC Challenge Saturday at Belleville Lake in Ann Arbor, Mich., earning its fifth and sixth wins of the season to remain perfect (6-0) in 2014.
The Buckeyes defeated No. 9 Notre Dame in the morning session, sounding the horn in 6:25.30 to defeat the Irish (6:32.06) by six seconds before defeating No. 4 Virginia in the afternoon session with a time of 6:21.30, four seconds faster than the Cavaliers (6:25.91).
Ohio State has a bye weekend before closing the regular season Saturday, May 3 against Michigan State and Louisville at Belleville Lake in Ann Arbor, Mich.
