COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 4 Ohio State rowing team travels to Clemson, S.C., April 20-21 to compete at the Clemson Invitational. The Buckeyes will face 15 teams throughout the two day regatta, 12 of which are currently ranked or receiving votes towards the rankings.

SETTING THE SCENE
Of the 15 teams Ohio State will face at the Clemson Invitational, 12 are ranked or receiving votes towards the rankings. The Buckeyes will face No. 3 Virginia, No. 5 UCLA, No. 14 Clemson, No. 18 Louisville and No. 20 Duke along with Minnesota, Oklahoma, Texas, Michigan State, Pennsylvania, Tennessee and Oregon State. UCF, Indiana and Miami round out the competition for the Buckeyes.
LAST TIME OUT
Ohio State traveled to Ann Arbor, Mich., April 13 to compete against No. 13 Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana in the Big Ten Duals at Belleville Lake.
The Buckeyes swept varsity competition against the three Big Ten foes, claiming first place in all five races. The first varsity eight opened the morning of racing for the Buckeyes, crossing the line in 6:32.7 to notch first place. Ohio State next placed first in the first varsity four as the crew sounded the horn in 7:33.9 to defeat second-place Michigan (7:37.9) by four seconds. Following the first varsity four, the second varsity eight claimed victory with a time of 6:48.1 to stay perfect with its fourth consecutive victory of the season. The Scarlet and Gray completed the varsity sweep with victories from the second varsity four (7:42.4) and the third varsity four (7:43.8).
Ohio State ended the day with novice competition. The first novice eight finished second (7:01.1) while the second novice eight finished fourth (7:07.5).
IN THE RANKINGS
Ohio State remains at No. 4 in the latest CRCA/USRowing Coaches Poll. With their Top 5 ranking, the Buckeyes have now ranked within the Top 10 since the beginning of the season and are currently the highest ranked Big Ten team followed by No. 13 Michigan and No. 15 Wisconsin. Minnesota, Michigan State and Iowa are also in the mix, all having received votes towards the rankings.
The Buckeye second varsity eight has won four consecutive races this season to stay perfect, and holds a 13-0 record in regular season competition dating back to March 24, 2012.
BIG TEN BOAT OF THE WEEK
Two Ohio State crews have won Big Ten Boat of the Week honors this season. The first varsity eight earned the weekly honor for its performances at the OSU Invitational, defeating Tennessee by 31 seconds in the first session and Notre Dame by 12 seconds in the second session.
The second varsity eight earned the conference award for its performance at the Big Ten Duals. The crew claimed first place over No. 13 Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana, defeating Michigan by 8.2 seconds, Michigan State by 8.5 seconds and Indiana by 16 seconds.
Ohio State won its first national title in 2012 when the 1V4 of coxswain Alexandra Sawatzki, Taylore Urban, Katie King, Stephanie Johnson and Emily Ralph crossed the line in 7:13.09 to defeat Virginia by 2.09 seconds. Previously, the Buckeye 1V4 had placed as high as third at the NCAA Championships in 2006 in West Windsor, N.J.
Ohio State has a bye week before returning to action at its second and final home regatta of the season. The Buckeyes take on No. 8 Harvard May 4 at 9 a.m. at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River.
