COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State first varsity eight has been named Big Ten Co-Boat of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. The weekly honor marks the first of the season for the Buckeyes.
The boat of Katie King, Cori Meinert, Meghan Birkbeck, Ashley Bauer, Eelkje Miedema, Allison Elber, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Amanda Poll claimed the first win of the day for the Buckeyes during the first session at the OSU Invitational, crossing the line in 6:52.7 over Tennessee (7:23.7). The crew then went on to take first place over Notre Dame in the second session, sounding the horn in 7:09.28 to defeat Notre Dame (7:21.26) by 12 seconds.
In all, the Buckeyes claimed 10 wins over Tennessee and Notre Dame in varsity competition.
Ohio State next travels to Ann Arbor, Mich., to compete against No. 8 Michigan, Michigan State and Indiana at the Big Ten Duals April 13.
