Columbus, Ohio – Coming off wins over No. 1 California and No. 10 Stanford, the Ohio State women’s rowing Second Varsity Eight – Hanna Gottschalk, Kimberleigh Warriner, Catherine McNutt, Maddie Perrett, Chelsea Harpool, Bridget Schodorf, Cassandra Johnson, Annie Jachthuber and Anjali Fernandes (coxswain) – has been named the Big Ten Boat of the Week.
Making the trek out to Redwood Shores, Calif., for the Pac-12 Challenge, the Buckeyes faced stiff competition all weekend. After a loss in the opening session of the regatta, the 2V8 answered with two resounding wins over California and Stanford.
The win over California was Ohio State’s only win on the first day of competition. The Buckeyes out-rowed the Golden Bears by 3.35 seconds with a time of 6:25.55 to secure the win; it was California’s 2V8’s first loss of the year.
The Second Varsity Eight returned for the final session on Sunday and clocked a readout of 6:29.55 to Stanford’s 6:35.46 to finish the weekend with a 2-1 record.
The Second Varsity Eight owns an overall record of 3-2 so far in 2017. The Buckeyes will travel to Bloomington, Ind., this Saturday (April 8) for a Big Ten Double Dual with Indiana and Iowa.
