COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State second varsity eight has been named Big Ten Boat of the Week, the conference announced Tuesday. The weekly honor marks the first of the season for the No. 1 Buckeyes.
The crew of Nicole Becks, Chloe Meyer, Anna Gackowski, Katie Beletskaya, Sandra Dinter, Anne Dietrich, Stephanie Williams, Taylore Urban and coxswain Alex Sawatzki earned one of three Buckeye varsity first-place finishes with a victory over No. 12 Michigan Saturday morning at Griggs Reservoir on the Scioto River. With their time of 6:30.42, the Buckeyes defeated the Wolverines (6:38.26) by 7.44 seconds, the largest margin of victory on the day for Ohio State.
With the win, the second varsity eight continued its regular season undefeated streak from the 2012 campaign (9-0) and the 2013 campaign (8-0) and now stands at 18-0 in regular season competition dating back to March 24, 2012.
The Buckeyes next travel to Corvallis, Ore., to compete against No. 13 Stanford and Oregon State in the Oregon State Classic April 5-6.
