COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Ohio State women's rowing team was voted preseason No. 1 in the College Rowing Coaches Association (CRCA)/US Rowing Preseason Top 20 poll, released Wednesday.
The three-time defending national champion Buckeyes received 17 of 25 first-place votes in the preseason poll to take the top spot for the third year in a row. NCAA runner-up California is ranked No. 3 with three first-place votes, followed by No. 3 Brown (one vote), No. 4 Virginia (four votes) and No. 5 Washington.
Ohio State won its third consecutive NCAA championship last May, becoming the first team in the history of the sport to do so. OSU claimed an individual national title in the First Varsity Eight, silver in the Second Varsity Eight and fifth place in the First Varsity Four.
In winning its third national team championship, Ohio State trails only Brown's six titles all-time. The Buckeyes own nine top-five team finishes at the NCAA championships and six event national titles, the fourth-highest total in NCAA history.
OSU opens the season March 26 in Princeton, N.J., against No. 3 Brown and No. 10 Princeton.
