No. 1 Ohio State Advances Crews to Grand Finals at NCAA Championships

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The No. 1 Ohio State rowing team claimed first place in all three of its semifinals Saturday morning at Eagle Creek Park, automatically advancing its three crews to the 2013 NCAA Championships Grand Finals. The Buckeyes are one of only two teams (USC) to have qualified all three crews to the Grand Finals.

The top three crews from each semifinal automatically advanced to the Grand Finals, which begin at 9:30 a.m. Sunday. The remaining teams advanced to the Petite Finals, which start at 9:20 a.m.

The first varsity eight was the first Buckeye crew to claim victory Saturday morning as the boat of Katie King, Cori Meinert, Eelkje Miedema, Ashley Bauer, Meghan Birkbeck, Allison Elber, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Victoria Lazur sounded the horn in 7:14.40, ahead of Princeton (7:15.30) and Washington (7:17.22).


 

 

Immediately after that race, the second varsity eight of Daphne Socha, Katie Beletskaya, Silvia DeMatteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicole Becks, Lauren Eckles, Samantha Fowle, Catherine Shields and coxswain Amanda Poll claimed a spot in the Grand Final, crossing the line in 7:19.61 ahead of Yale (7:22.76) and USC (7:24.28).

The last Ohio State crew to race, the first varsity four of Taylore Urban, Sara Handa, Chloe Meyer, Aina Cid-Centelles and coxswain Dara Schnoll completed the Buckeye sweep, placing first with a time of 7:36.71. Washington (7:38.97) and Brown (7:41.88) rounded out the top three crews.
