COLUMBUS, Ohio -- No. 1 Ohio State won all four of its preliminary heats on day one of the 2015 Big Ten Rowing Championships Saturday evening at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis.

All seven Buckeye boats will compete in tomorrow morning's grand finals beginning with the varsity eight race at 7:40 a.m. ET. Times were adjusted by the conference coaches due to the threat of inclement weather throughout the day Sunday. Boats raced in calm water on Saturday despite steady rain.

Ohio State's first varsity eight got things started for the Buckeyes on Saturday, cruising to an 18-second victory in its four-boat preliminary heat. Holly Norton, Catherine Shields, Sarah K. Davis, Ashley Bauer, Stephanie Williams, Anna Ralph, Aina Cid Centelles, Rachel Engel and coxswain Sami Jurofsky sounded the horn in a time of 6:40.17, with Michigan earning runner-up honors (6:58.02). Indiana won the second heat and posted the second-fastest time overall (6:41.33).

The Buckeye second varsity eight continued momentum with a 10-second win its preliminary. Chloe Meyer, Cassandra Johnson, Anne Dietrich, Allyson Baker, Annie Jachthuber, Laura Monteso Esmel, Bridget Verdeyen, MaryClare Stannard and coxswain Sarah Asad crossed the line in a time of 6:49.88, well ahead of the second-place Wolverines (6:59.13). Wisconsin won the second 2V8 heat in a time of 6:53.91.
 
Entering the championships as the No. 2 seed, Ohio State's first varsity four posted the top preliminary time of the evening, winning its heat by 12 seconds. Kelsey Albrinck, Anna Gackowski, Bridget Schodorf, Sandra Dinter and coxswain Kylie Soltis turned in a time of 7:39.19, outpacing second-place Michigan (7:51.43). No. 1-seed Wisconsin won the first 1V4 heat with a time of 7:54.98.

OSU closed the opening day of competition with a win in its first novice eight heat. Stephanie Gase, Hanna Gottschalk, Bianca Piloseno, Catherine McNutt, Karen Somes, Morgan Hummel, Ashley Saba, Kaylee Koker and coxswain Rachel Kitay completed their race in 7:03.12, four seconds faster than runner-up Michigan State. Wisconsin's 1N8 posted the top time of the day in the first section (7:02.31).
