No. 3 Ohio State Captures Three Wins Against No. 8 Harvard

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 3 Ohio State rowing team claimed three wins against No. 8 Harvard Saturday morning on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir, sweeping varsity competition.

The Buckeyes opened the morning of racing with novice competition as the first novice eight crew of Miranda Branstool, Victoria Langwasser, Anna Gackowski, Systke Miedema, Hailey Tiarks, Bridget Verdeyen, Julia Vari, Anna Ralph and coxswain Sarah Asad crossed the line in 7:17.00 to finish second behind Harvard’s third varsity eight which sounded the horn in 7:09.47.

Ohio State opened varsity competition in the second race of the morning. The first varsity four of Sarah Kessler, Taylore Urban, Sara Handa, Chloe Meyer and coxswain Claire Sasowsky claimed first place with a time of 7:54.47. The third varsity four of Julie Walsh, Sarah Marshall, Anna Lind, Katherine Tylinski and coxswain Sami Jurofsky crossed the line in second place in 8:05.69 while the second varsity four of Jillian Getz, Anne Fruth, Julie Dick, Sarah Milota and coxswain Dara Schnoll rounded out the top three crews with a time of 8:06.50. Harvard finished in fourth place with a time of 8:08.57.


 

 

The second varsity eight of Daphne Socha, Katie Beletskaya, Silvia De Matteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicole Becks, Lauren Eckles, Samantha Fowle, Catherine Shields and coxswain Amanda Poll continued varsity competition, sounding the horn in 7:01.94, 14 seconds ahead of Harvard (7:15.35). With the win, the second varsity eight improves to 8-0 this season and now holds a 17-0 regular season record dating back to March 24, 2012.

The first varsity eight of Katie King, Cori Meinert, Eelkje Miedema, Ashley Bauer, Meghan Birkbeck, Allison Elber, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Victoria Lazur concluded competition with the third and final varsity win of the morning. The crew finished the race three seconds ahead of Harvard (6:56.98) with a time of 6:53.29.

Ohio State returns to action May 19 at the 2013 Big Ten Championships at Eagle Creek Park in Indianapolis, Ind.
