No. 1 Buckeyes Finish 5-0 on Final Day at Clemson

COLUMBUS, Ohio - No. 1 Ohio State finished 5-0 on the second and final day of competition at the Clemson Invitational Sunday morning in Clemson, S.C.  The Scarlet and Gray competed in 15 races over two days on Lake Hartwell, finishing first in 12 contests and runner-up in three additional sprints.

Ohio State's first varsity eight opened the final session of the weekend with a winning time of 6:23.5. Chloe Meyer, Aina Cid Centelles, Anna Ralph, Stephanie Williams, Ashley Bauer, Sarah K. Davis, Catherine Shields, Holly Norton and coxswain Sami Jurofsky finished 10 seconds clear of No. 16 UCLA and 12 seconds ahead of Cornell. With its perfect 3-0 record at the regatta, the 1V8 moved to 9-0 on the season and 21-0 since the start of the 2014 season.

The second varsity eight was next on the water for the Buckeyes. MaryClare Stannard, Bridget Schodorf, Emily Markham, Annie Jachthuber, Cassandra Johnson, Bridget Verdeyen, Allyson Baker, Rachel Engel and coxswain Sarah Asad edged the Bruins at the line for the win (6:36.9-6:38.2). With a 2-1 record over two days of racing, the 2V8 moved its record to 8-1 for the year and 41-4 dating back to the beginning of the 2012 season.

OSU's first varsity four -- Sarah Peffley, Emily Caudle, Anna Gackowski, Anne Dietrich and coxswain Maggie Creely -- battled UCLA in its race as well, crossing the line in 7:21.5, less than a second ahead of the Bruins. The 1V4 finished the weekend with a 2-1 ledger.

Casey Schaffer, Chelsea Harpool, Sarah N. Davis, Sandra Dinter and coxswain Dani Figliuolo finished the weekend unbeaten at 3-0 with a winning time of 7:24.6 in the second varsity four sprint. Louisville was a distant runner-up in a time of 7:30.3.

The Buckeyes' first novice eight -- Kaylee Koker, Ashley Saba, Morgan Hummel, Kelsey Tester, Catherine McNutt, Bianca Piloseno, Hanna Gottschalk, Stephanie Gase and coxswain Rachel Kitay --closed the two-day regatta with a neck-and-neck battle against Michigan State in a combined 3V8/1N8 contest, beating the Spartans in a photo finish (6:43.0-6:43.3). The 1N8 posted a 2-1 record overall at the invitational.
