COLUMBUS, Ohio – The No. 6 Ohio State rowing team opened the 2013 season with a win in second varsity eight competition against No. 3 Princeton and No. 13 Brown Saturday at Carnegie Lake in Princeton, N.J. In addition to the win, the first varsity eight, first varsity four and second varsity four all posted second-place finishes for the Buckeyes.
The first novice eight crew comprised of Amanda Bauer, Anna Gackowski, Anna Ralph, Rachel Wolverton, Bridget Verdeyen, Haley Tiarks, Victoria Langwasser, Julia Vari and coxswain Sarah Asad competed in the second race of the day, placing fourth with a time of 7:45.3.
In first varsity four competition, the Buckeye crew of Sarah Kessler, Taylore Urban, Sara Handa, Katherine Tylinski and coxswain Sami Jurofsky finished in second place behind Brown after crossing the line in 7:57.8.
Ohio State earned its first win of the season in the second varsity eight race as the crew of Daphne Socha, Chloe Meyer, Silvia De Matteis, Stephanie Johnson, Nicki Becks, Lauren Eckles, Meghan Birkbeck, Catherine Shields and coxswain Tori Lazor sounded the horn in 6:51.4 to place ahead of the Princeton and Brown crews.
The regatta concluded with the first varsity eight competition. The Buckeye crew of Katie King, Cori Meinert, Samantha Fowle, Ashley Bauer, Eelkje Miedema, Allison Elber, Holly Norton, Claire-Louise Bode and coxswain Amanda Poll finished second behind Princeton with a time of 6:43.8.
Up next, the Buckeyes host the first of two home regattas this season, taking on No. 7 Michigan, No. 14 Notre Dame and Tennessee on the Scioto River at Griggs Reservoir at 9 a.m. April 6.
