COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Ohio State University women’s lacrosse team announced its schedule for the 2018 season on Wednesday, which includes games against three of the final four teams from the 2017 NCAA tournament, and six overall contests with teams from the tournament.
The women open their season in Annapolis, Maryland where they will face Navy on February 10. The midshipmen made it to the 2017 NCAA semifinals before falling to eventual runner-up Boston College. The Buckeyes host Detroit on February 16 in their home opener.
Ohio State then embarks on a four-state road trip with games at Jacksonville (Feb. 23), Cincinnati (Feb. 26), Binghamton (March 9) and finally a neutral site showdown with the University of Massachusetts at Albright College in Reading, Pennsylvania concludes the road trip on March 11.
The Buckeyes host Connecticut on March 14 before opening Big Ten play with a St. Patrick’s Day clash at Michigan in Ann Arbor. From there OSU starts a three-game home stand with Rutgers on March 22. Robert Morris breaks up the Big Ten action on March 28 before the Buckeyes wrap up the home stand with a March 31 tilt against Penn State.
After the home stand wraps up OSU heads to Northwestern on April 6, and then to Pittsburgh for a neutral-site contest with Bucknell at Mount Lebanon High School on April 11. The last week of the regular season gets started when Ohio State hosts Maryland for senior day on April 15, and the regular season finale sees the Buckeyes take on Johns Hopkins University in Baltimore on April 20.
The Big Ten Women’s Lacrosse tournament gets underway on May 4 in Ann Arbor. The top four conference teams qualify for the tournament, where the top seeded team plays the No. 4 seed, while the No. 2 seed faces the No. 3 seed. The winners of those games play for the Big Ten championship on May 6.
The Buckeyes return top point scorers Molly Wood and Baley Parrott from the 2017 squad. Wood led the team with 42 goals, 48 points and 97 shots last season. Parrott tallied 38 points from 30 goals and eight assists during the season. Liza Hernandez looks to build off her impressive freshman season where she posted 34 points from 21 goals and 13 assists. Jill Rizzo returns in goal for the Buckeyes, the sophomore led the Big Ten in saves-per-game with 10.76 in 2017.
