Nov. 21, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Alexis Venechanos, head coach of the Ohio State women’s lacrosse team, released the 2014 schedule Thursday, highlighted by eight contests against NCAA tournament teams from a year ago.
“We couldn’t be more excited for the 2014 season,” said Venechanos, who is in her fourth season at Ohio State. “This challenging schedule allows us to compete among the best teams in the country both in and out of conference. We are prepared and ready for the battles ahead.”
The Buckeyes open the regular season in Columbus with back-to-back home games against Detroit Feb. 7 and Winthrop Feb. 9. Last year, the Scarlet and Gray posted a 5-2 record at home.
Ohio State will then hit the road taking on three-consecutive NCAA opponents beginning at Stanford Feb. 15 before traveling to face Boston College Feb. 22. The Buckeyes will conclude their longest road swing of the year at Canisius March 1.
The Buckeyes will then be home for six of their next seven contests in Columbus, hosting Louisville March 4 before opening the American Lacrosse Conference (ALC) slate against Northwestern March 9. After Ohio State welcomes High Point March 10, the Buckeyes travel to face Hofsta just outside New York City March 15.
Ohio State returns home with a conference matchup vs. Florida March 22 before facing first-year program Oregon March 26 in Columbus. The squad will then close the second month of the season in a contest vs. William & Mary March 29.
The Scarlet and Gray will open the final month of the regular season at Michigan April 2 before heading south to face Vanderbilt April 6 in Nashville, Tenn.
Ohio State closes the home schedule with a conference game vs. Penn State April 13 and a non-conference matchup vs. Notre Dame April 15. After an 11-day break, the team heads to play Johns Hopkins April 26 before beginning postseason play. The final ALC Tournament will be hosted by Northwestern University May 1-4 in Evanston, Ill.
The NCAA tournament begins May 10 with the first and second rounds, with quarterfinal action taking place May 17. The NCAA Final Four and national championship games are set for May 23-25, respectively, hosted in Towson, Md.
