COLUMBUS, Ohio - Under the guidance of first-year head coach Alexis Venechanos, the Ohio State women's lacrosse team has started practice for a demanding six-game fall ball schedule that is highlighted by a match with defending national champion Maryland.
"There was a tremendous amount of anticipation and excitement from the coaching staff and players for the official start of fall ball," Venechanos said. The athletes have been working hard and there has been great energy and enthusiasm in practice and conditioning."
The Buckeyes start off their offseason slate at home with Notre Dame at 3 p.m. Wednesday on the Ackerman practice fields. They will then make a weekend trip to College Park, Md., for match-ups with Loyola (Md.) at 9 a.m. Sunday and Maryland at 11 a.m. later that day.
Another two-game day is scheduled for Oct. 14 when Ohio State will meet the Cardinals at 3 p.m., followed by a contest with fellow American Lacrosse Conference foe Vanderbilt at approximately 4:15 p.m. Fall ball will wrap up at 2 p.m. Oct. 22 with the Scarlet vs. Gray intra-squad scrimmage.
"We are very thrilled to play against great competition this fall," Venechanos said. "Playing against the defending National Champions, and two NCAA tournament teams from last season will put the team in a great position entering the 2011 season."
