COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 20-ranked Ohio State women's lacrosse team led three times throughout the game, but a four-goal, second-half Northwestern run eventually gave the fifth-ranked Wildcats a 14-11 win after a 99-minute delay because of thunderstorms over Lakeside Field in Evanston, Ill. The Buckeyes fall to 8-6 on the season and 1-3 in the ALC, while NU improves to 13-2 overall and 3-2 in the conference.

Jayme Beard led the Buckeyes with four goals, three of which were scored in the final 1:32 of play, while Gabby Capuzzi had two and five other Buckeyes scored one on the night. In goal, Annie Carruthers ended the contest with 12 saves to mark the Columbus native's fourth game this season with at least 10 stops.

After a 35-minute delay to start the game because of lightning, Capuzzi opened scoring just over two minutes into the contest and the teams battled to 3-2 score, advantage Northwestern, by the 14:49 mark of the first half. Four of the combined five goals came off free-position attempts before thunderstorms moved back into the area and the game was called with 11:04 on the clock because of more lightning.

Following the 99-minute delay, the game restarted with back-to-back Buckeye goals from Kirsten Donahue and Lindsey Gysin to give Ohio State a 4-3 lead. The Wildcats answered with three-consecutive goals, but another two-goal burst from the Scarlet & Gray via Maghan Beaudrault and Alayna Markwordt tied the game up at 6-all with 1:20 to play in the first half. Northwestern added one just before the intermission and headed into the two-minute halftime with a 7-6 lead it would not relinquish.

The Wildcats came out of the break and went on a 5-1 run to pull ahead 12-7 with 12:16 to play. From there, both teams suffered through a nearly six-minute scoring draught before Capuzzi finished off an unassisted tally at 6:44 to set up the Buckeyes' late-game rally. With a 13-8 score, Beard rattled off three goals in the 1:32 of action, interrupted by a Wildcat tally down the stretch, to pull Ohio State to within three by game's end.

Jessica Russo led Northwestern with five goals on the night, while Shannon Smith had four. The Wildcats out-shot Ohio State 30-21 and had advantages in draw controls (14-12) and groundballs (16-12).

The final result solidified partial seeding in the ALC Tournament, scheduled for May 5-8 at Vanderbilt in Nashville. Florida has locked up the top seed, while Northwestern takes the No. 2 spot with the win Friday. Vanderbilt, Penn State, Johns Hopkins and the Buckeyes' fates are in flux with the Nittany Lions and Blue Jays taking the field tomorrow in Baltimore, Md.

The Buckeyes close out the regular season at 1 p.m. Saturday, April 30 against No. 18 Johns Hopkins in Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium. The game will be the final at JOMS for eight senior standouts: Jayme Beard, Maghan Beaudrault, Natasha Blackburn, Annie Carruthers, Lindsey Gysin, Jacqueline Orona, Maggie Smith and Brittney Zerhusen. It will be broadcasted on the Big Ten Network (time is TBA) with Mike Wolf and Kara Lentz calling the action.
