This week marks the final home games for the 2014 Buckeye women's lacrosse senior class as Ohio State hosts No. 8 Penn State Sunday and No. 11 Notre Dame Tuesday at Jesse Owens Memorial Stadium in Columbus.

Over the next few days, the four seniors will look back on their time wearing the Scarlet and Gray. Today's featured senior is Kaila Gottlick, a native of Madison, Conn. The senior Buckeye has been a part of the Buckeye program the last three seasons, playing in 47 games with 30 career starts. The OSU midfielder has collected back-to-back seasons with 20 goals. This year, she is seventh on the team with 24 points with 20 goals and four assists. Gottlick began the year with a team-best 11-game point streak from Feb. 7-March 26. She tied her career high with a four-point performance in the win over Oregon last month in Columbus. An OSU Scholar-Athlete, Kaila will graduate this spring with a degree in human nutrition.

What is your favorite quote by your coach?
Ubuntu, "I am because we are".

If you weren't play lacrosse, what would you be doing?
If I wasn't playing lacrosse, I would be horseback riding or surfing.

Do you have any advice for incoming and younger athletes?
My advice for incoming athletes is to enjoy every moment, as hard as that may be sometimes, because four years go by way faster than you think and before you know it you'll be old playing rec-league softball. (haha)

What is your mindset like before a game?
Before a game, I'm fired up to beat whatever team we are playing, but also focused and in the moment to be able to control my emotions.  My adrenaline gets me revved up anticipating the win.

How would you describe yourself on/off the field?
On the field, I would describe myself as fearless and relentless, I keep pushing until the final whistle and encourage my teammates to do the same.   Off the field, I love to laugh and be goofy with my friends and family, and surf on the wave of life. Oh yea, and study!

What is something your hometown is known for?
My hometown is known for being a quintessential New England beach town, which draws a large city crowd in the summer.

What do you love most about your sport?
I love how fast-paced the game is and how you need your entire team to create success.

How did you decided to major in Dietetics?
I decided to major in Dietetics because growing up my mom instilled the value of eating whole, fresh foods and the importance of healthy eating.  Also, nutrition helped me increase my performance as an athlete immensely.  When I came to Ohio State, my former teammate, Alayna, helped mentor me through possible career paths, and I found Dietetics best aligned with my future goals in nutrition.

Do you remember the first moment when you became interested in the sport?
The first moment I became interested in the sport was when I was in fifth grade and I was bored of playing softball, so my friend suggested we check out lacrosse!

As a senior, how do you motivate other players?
I motivate other players by encouraging them to be the best they can be on and off the field.  I lead by example by giving my all every day and enjoying the time I have to get better.

If you have a free day, what are some of your favorite things to do away from lacrosse?
Some of my favorite things to do besides lacrosse are cooking, discovering new music, yoga, and rollerblading!
