Porretto Named Big Ten Offensive Player of the Week
Senior Jennifer Porretto recorded a career-high 10 points Saturday.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - Ohio State senior midfielder Jennifer Porretto has been named the Big Ten's offensive player of the week in recognition of her performance in the win 21-14 victory at Canisius Saturday. This is the first weekly honor of her career.
Porretto, a native of Smithtown, N.Y., recorded career highs in points (10) and assists (7) while scoring three goals of her own, helping Ohio State top 20 goals for the second time this season and improve to 7-1 on the year. The seven assists were one shy of the Ohio State single-game record. Porretto also added two ground balls and a draw control.
Porretto scored Ohio State's first goal less than 3 minutes into the match. Then, with the Buckeyes down 4-3, she assisted on Ohio State's next three goals to put the Buckeyes up 6-5. Porretto then assisted on Ohio State's last goal of the half with a minute remaining to help the Buckeyes cap a 6-0 run to end the half. She scored two and assisted on three more in the second half.
Porretto and the Buckeyes return to action this week Wednesday at Cincinnati (3 p.m.) and Saturday at Notre Dame (Noon, ESPN3).
