COLUMBUS, Ohio – Make it four weeks in a row for Liza Hernandez. The newcomer from New Albany was named the Big Ten’s top freshman performer for the fourth consecutive week Tuesday by the Big Ten conference. She is the only freshman to win the honor this season among all seven conference teams.
Hernandez scored five more goals over the weekend against No. 15 Stanford and Cal and also added an assist, two draw controls, two caused turnovers and two ground balls. She had her best game in the win over Cal, scoring three goals and an assist. She scored the second goal of the game and added two more in the second half to help fend off a rally by the Golden Bears.
On Friday vs. the Cardinal she scored both of her goals in the first half, the second of which brought Ohio State to within one at 6-5 with 6 minutes left in the half.
Hernandez leads the Buckeyes with 15 goals and 22 total points and is second with seven assists. Her 15 goals rank her third in the Big Ten and 17th nationally while her 4.4 points per game also put her third in the conference.
