COLUMBUS, Ohio - Tayler Kuzma, a junior defender on the 13th-ranked Ohio State women's lacrosse team, is among the 50 collegiate players named to the Tewaaraton Trophy Watch List, released today by the Tewaaraton Foundation. The list includes the top players across all three divisions of NCAA lacrosse and highlight the early contenders for the 2013 Tewaaraton Award.

The Buckeyes' No. 1 shutdown defender, Kuzma has started all 34 games played in her career. She anchored 12th-ranked scoring defense in the country last season, finishing the year with 35 groundballs, good for second on the team, and 16 caused turnovers. Now just two games into the 2013 season, the Bel Air, Md., native leads the team in groundballs (5) and has three caused turnovers and two draw controls to her credit.

Kuzma is the fourth Buckeye to be among award candidates, joining Alayna Markwordt (2012), Kelly Haggerty (2009) and Regina Oliver (2005).

The 2013 Buckeyes are off to a 1-1 start to the season with their home opener scheduled for 1 p.m. Saturday against 20th-ranked Boston College.

The Tewaaraton Award annually honors the top male and top female college lacrosse player in the United States. The selection committees are made up of top collegiate coaches and are appointed annually by The Tewaaraton Foundation. Committees will make additions to these lists as the season progresses and athletes earn a spot alongside these elite players.

Both lists will be narrowed to 25 men's and women's nominees in late April. In mid-May, five men's and five women's finalists will be announced. These finalists will be invited to Washington, D.C. for the 13th annual Tewaaraton Award Ceremony, May 30 at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of the American Indian.
