Buckeyes fall on the road at Duke, 15-6
Cian Dabrowski led Ohio State with three goals at Duke.
COLUMBUS, Ohio - The No. 14/18 Ohio State women's lacrosse team fell on the road this afternoon at No. 3/3 Duke, 15-6, at Koskinen Stadium in Durham, N.C.
The loss drops Ohio State to 10-4 overall with three regular season games remaining before the Big Ten tournament. Duke improved to 13-1.
Junior Cian Dabrowski netted a hat trick - all in the second half - to lead the Buckeyes. Senior Jennifer Porretto added two goals and senior Mary Kate Facchina had one. Senior Jackie Cifarelli added an assist on Dabrowski's third goal of the game.
The Blue Devils were in control for most of this one as they jumped out to a 3-0 lead less than 4 minutes in. Porretto then put the Buckeyes on the board at the 26:26 mark to make it 3-1. However, Duke would score the next five goals to take an 8-1 lead into halftime.
The second half was a different story as the Buckeyes battled and played even with the Blue Devils the rest of the way, winning the ground balls 9-8 and draw controls 10-3. But the first-half deficit proved too much to overcome as Duke forced 10 Ohio State turnovers in each half and held the upper hand with a 33-19 shot advantage, including 17-8 in the first half.
Brigid Smith and Katie Trees led Duke with three goals each.
Ohio State will take on its second consecutive Top 5 opponent when it hosts No. 1 Maryland at 11 a.m. Sunday at Ohio Stadium. Admission is free and will also be televised on BTN and BTN2Go.com.
