JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - Ohio State picked up a gritty road win this afternoon with a 13-12 victory at Jacksonville, battling back from a five-goal deficit in the first half. The win moves the Buckeyes to 2-0 while the Dolphins fall to 0-1.
Ohio State trailed 6-1 early in the game, but mounted a comeback by clamping down defensively and finding its rhythm on attack. They scored the last three goals of the first half and totaled nine second-half goals to pull out the victory.

Freshman Liza Hernandez continued her hot start to her collegiate career with three more goals, the third of which tied the game at 12-12 with under 5 minutes to play, and one assist. Sophomore Baley Parrott also added three goals and freshman Jillian Rizzo recorded 16 saves, the biggest coming in the final seconds.
The game-winner came from junior Molly Wood who found the back of the net with 3:33 to go to break a 12-12 tie. Then after an Ohio State turnover with under a minute to play, Jacksonville had a chance to tie the game with less than 10 seconds to play, but Rizzo denied Lillie Miller's shot and the ball bounced into the stick of Shannon Rosati, who held on as the clock ran out.
The Dolphins were the aggressor to start the game, jumping out to the 6-1 lead with 12:11 left in the first half. The game stayed that way for the next 7 minutes until Parrott scored her first goal at 5:18 as the Buckeyes started their comeback. A little more than a minute later Erika Keselman made it 6-3 and Parrott closed out the first-half scoring with a free-position goal at 2:38 as JU led 6-4 at the half.
Parrott picked up right where she left off to start the second half, finding the back of the net for a third time at 26:21 to cut the lead to 6-5. MacEllen McDonough then put JU back up by two at 25:09. But it was Ohio State who would control most of the second period as the Buckeyes went on to score six of the next eight goals during the next 14 minutes to take an 11-9 lead with 10:17 left.
But right when it seemed Ohio State was in control, Jacksonville, the defending Atlantic Sun champions, reeled off three straight goals of their own to take a 12-11 lead with 6:24 left. From there, Hernandez scored her third goal of the game, spinning in front of the goal while dodging a Dolphin defender to tie it, before Wood added the game winner.
Senior co-captain Meredith Bushell had five ground balls for Ohio State while senior Morgan Fee led OSU with five draw controls. Also scoring for the Buckeyes on the day were senior co-captain Paulina Constant and sophomore Mackenzie Maring, who finished with two goals each. Senior Morgan Castelein added one and freshman Alex Vander Molen led Ohio State with two assists.
Danielle Della Rocca led Jacksonville with three goals on seven shots.
Ohio State returns home next weekend when it plays host to in-state foe Cincinnati at 2 p.m. Sunday.
