Alexis Venechanos, head coach of the Ohio State women's lacrosse team, announced two additions to her staff Wednesday. Nora Boerger has been hired as a coordinator of performance analysis, while Emily Boerger will serve as a volunteer assistant coach. The twin sisters wrapped up playing careers at Division II Urbana last season and are familiar with the Buckeye program through working several camps.
"I am very thrilled to add two more members to the coaching staff," Venechanos, who enters her fourth season at Ohio State in 2013-14, said. "Both Emily and Nora have a strong drive and desire for the sport. Nora's position as coordinator of performance analysis is a very cutting edge and vital role for the program as we continue to maximize technology to the fullest. Emily's strong work ethic and knowledge of the game will be a great addition to the staff both on and off the field. Both are a great fit for the program."
As the coordinator for performance analysis, Nora will provide oversight and management for all aspects of the sports video operations for the team, including film exchange, video capture, editing, production and equipment maintenance. A team captain in 2013, Nora started 13 of 14 games in her senior season, finishing second on the team with 22 goals, nine assists, 36 groundballs and 37 draw controls. She was the team leader in caused turnovers as a midfielder, tallying 24. Nora graduated with a degree in exercise science as an honor roll and Academic All-GLIAC selection.
Emily will step into the role of volunteer assistant coach, vacated by Gabby Capuzzi when she was promoted to a full-time assistant earlier this summer. A first-team all-conference selection on attack, Emily set school records in for points (52), goals (50) and goals per game (3.85) during her senior campaign in 2013. She finished seventh in the country in NCAA Division II in goals per game and left Urbana as the all-time leader in points (121), goals (114), shots (276) and game-winning goals (3). Emily graduated with a degree in exercise science.
Prior to their time at Urbana, the duo played lacrosse and basketball at Fairbanks High School in Milford Center, Ohio.
