Julia McKinnon has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week.

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Freshman forward Julia McKinnon has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week, the league announced Wednesday.
McKinnon, a native of Kelowna, British Columbia, scored the game-winning goal Saturday in Mankato, Minn. Her score came at 14:01 of the second period and the Buckeyes held on to defeat the Mavericks, 4-3. It was the eighth goal for McKinnon, third most by a rookie in the WCHA this season. She put 12 shots on goal in the two-game series as the Buckeyes picked up five points to remain in second place in the WCHA.
The score marked the fifth-consecutive series with a goal for McKinnon and she has scored at least one goal in seven of the nine series Ohio State has played. McKinnon is tied for sixth on the squad with 12 points.
This is the fourth WCHA honor for the Buckeyes this season. Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp was named Defensive Player of the Week, Oct. 10. Senior forward Paige Semenza and sophomore forward Taylor Kuehl were each named WCHA Offensive Player of the Week, Oct. 17 and Oct. 31 respectively.
Ohio State hosts RIT, Dec. 8-9, at the OSU Ice Rink. Game times are set for 7:07 p.m. Saturday and 2:07 p.m. Sunday.
