Kepler Named WCHA Rookie of the Week
Nov. 6, 2013
COLUMBUS, Ohio – Ohio State women’s hockey freshman forward Claudia Kepler has been named WCHA Rookie of the Week the league announced Wednesday.
A native of Verona, Wis. and a former member of the Tier 1 Elite League Madison Capitols, Kepler had a big homecoming this past weekend at No. 2 Wisconsin.
On Saturday, Kepler got the Buckeyes off to a fast start, scoring her first career goal 17 seconds into the contest to give OSU an early 1-0 advantage. On Sunday she did it again, except this time she found the back of the net with just 28 seconds remaining in the first period, once again giving the Buckeyes a 1-0 lead. Kepler put 10 shots on goal in the series, the most by anyone for Ohio State.
Senior goaltender Lisa Steffes was named WCHA Defensive Player of the Week back on Oct. 23. The Buckeyes had four players receive weekly WCHA awards last season including Chelsea Knapp, Paige Semenza, Taylor Kuehl and Julia McKinnon.
Ohio State plays host to Bemidji State this Friday night and Saturday afternoon at the OSU Ice Rink.
