COLUMBUS, Ohio — After a stellar start to both her season and her Buckeye career, Emma Maltais has been named the Western Collegiate Hockey Association Rookie of the Month, Powered by GoodWood Hockey, conference officials announced on Wednesday.
Maltais has a team-high 12 points and seven assists through the first month of the season. Her five goals tie her for second on the team. Maltais is tops among WCHA freshman in points, assists and tied for first in goals. Her 12 points rank third overall amongst all WCHA players, while her 1.50 points-per-game leads the conference.
The freshman has taken to the college game quickly, scoring at least one point in all but one of the Ohio State games this season. Maltais also won the WCHA Offensive Player of the Week award on October 10 after a four-point weekend at then No. 4 Minnesota, and the WCHA Rookie of the Week award on October 24 after a two goal and one assist performance in the series at St. Cloud.
The Buckeyes return to action this weekend with a series at No. 1 Wisconsin. Puck drop for the series opener is set for 3:07 p.m. ET on Saturday, while the finale is scheduled for a 1:07 p.m. ET start on Sunday.
