No. 1 Minnesota downed No. 6/7 Ohio State, 8-0, Saturday afternoon at Ridder Arena in Minneapolis.
The Golden Gophers outshot the Buckeyes 40-20 in the game and got a hat trick from junior Amanda Kessel en route to the victory.
Minnesota jumped out to an early lead 4:14 into the opening period and added two more to take a three goal lead into the first intermission. The Golden Gophers scored three more in the second period and two in the third to account for the scoring in the game.
Redshirt junior goaltender Chelsea Knapp got the start for Ohio State and played periods one and two, stopping 23 shots but allowing six goals. Junior Lisa Steffes allowed two goals in the final period while making nine saves. Minnesota goaltender Noora Raty made 20 saves and picked up her 30th career shutout.
Ohio State (5-3-0, 3-3-0 WCHA) will be back in action Oct. 26-27 as they host Bemidji State at the OSU Ice Rink.
