Nate Handrahan, Ohio State women's hockey head coach, has announced two new additions to the 2012-13 coaching staff. Brittany Carlson joins the staff as an undergraduate assistant coach and Jeff Salajko will serve as goalie coach.

A native of Kitchener, Ontario, Salajko served as a volunteer assistant coach with Ohio State men's ice hockey for two seasons under then head coach John Markell from 2009-10. He worked mainly with the goalies, helping former Buckeye goalie Dustin Carlson to a career year in 2008-09, as his season goals-against average, wins, shutouts, saves and save percentage all rank in the Top 10 in Ohio State history.

Salajko spent eight years in the professional ranks as a goalie. A 10th-round draft pick of the San Jose Sharks in the 1993 NHL Entry Draft (No. 236 overall), he played in the American, International and East Coast hockey leagues during his career. He played for the Columbus Chill in the ECHL from 1997-99 and was a three-time winner of the Subway Player of the Year and team MVP awards. Salajko played four years of major junior hockey in the Ontario Hockey League (1992-96).

"I am very pleased that Jeff has joined our staff," Handrahan said. "His enthusiasm for coaching along with a wealth of experience will benefit our team and our goaltenders."

Carlson, a product of Hudson, Wis., spent the last four seasons as a defenseman with the Buckeyes. She suited up for the Scarlet and Gray 142 times in her career and tallied 15 points on three goals and 12 assists. Carlson was three times named WCHA All-Academic and Academic-All Big Ten and was named a WCHA Scholar-Athlete twice.

"It is always a good thing when you can have alums around your program," Handrahan said. "Brit will get a ton of experience in a lot of areas such as travel planning, video, practice development and player skill development in her first exposure to coaching. It is important to us to continue to cultivate the next generation of female coaches to be in this great game."

Ohio State opens the 2012-13 campaign with a series against Lindenwood, September 28-29 at the OSU Ice Rink.
